“The Crown” star Matt Smith wants Selena Gomez to be cast as Meghan Markle in the Netflix show.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven’t even been married yet, but The Crown’s Matt Smith is already willing to write her into the history books… Or at least, into his Netflix show.
In fact, Smith tells Watch What Happens Live that he believes Selena Gomez should be the one cast as Meghan Markle if the future royal family member was ever to be portrayed on screen.
Fans of The Crown will note that the story revolving around the Royal Family currently takes place in the 1960’s, so they’d have to do quite a flash forward, but Smith has made it clear that if he had his druthers, they would.
Interestingly enough, Markle herself is an actress… So perhaps before she walks down the aisle in May, she can film her own scenes as herself. But Smith believes her acting days are over, joking that, “she’s not anymore. Her life is over.”
Markle has reportedly announced her retirement from acting, so maybe Selena will someday be up for the royal role!
