Kobe Bryant‘s widow continues to put on a brave face in the wake of a tragedy that struck her family more than a month ago. One day after posting a photo of her oldest daughter posing in front of a mural that honors her late husband and teen daughter, Vanessa Bryant shared a post about smiling though her heart is aching.
On Monday, March 9, the 37-year-old turned to Instagram to put out a photo of her with daughters, 17-year-old Natalia, 3-year-old Bianka and 8-month-old Capri, standing in front of the artistic memorial that depicted her husband kissing their second daughter Gianna on the head. Along with the picture, she quoted Nat King Cole‘s 1954 song, “Smile”.
Penned by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons, the famous track includes lyrics that read, “Smile even though it’s breaking/ When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by/ If you smile through your fear and sorrow/ Smile and maybe tomorrow/ You’ll see the sun come shining through for you/ Light up your face with gladness/ Hide every trace of sadness/ Although a tear may be ever so near/ That’s the time you must keep on trying/ Smile, what’s the use of crying?/ You’ll find that life is still worthwhile.”
One day prior, Vanessa made public a solo photo of Natalia posing in front of the exact same mural. In the post dated Sunday, March 8, she revealed that her oldest daughter with Kobe was on her way to her school’s winter formal. “my babies. Natalia. #winterformal,” she explained the snap that sees Natalia wearing a blue polka dot dress.
Kobe and Gianna, along with seven other people, died on January 26 after the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Calabasas, California. Two weeks later, they were laid to rest in a private ceremony at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California. A Celebration of Life event was later held at the Staples Center with Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Jimmy Kimmel and Michael Jordan among the attendees.
