Celebrities having a brush with the law is not something uncommon. Some made headlines for getting arrested over huge crimes that set tongues wagging. However, there are also times when they were booked for reasons as bizarre as licking donuts at the store.
Also among the weidest celebrity arrests was when a star was caught doing lewd action at a public place. Additionally, you might get arrested when you tried to impersonate someone you’re not.
Aceshowbiz has listed some of celebrity arrests that many would find ridiculous. Check them out.
1. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande made headlines back in 2015 after a video surfaced online, featuring the “7 rings” songtress licking a store’s doughnuts while laughing alongside then-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez but never bought them. Not only getting backlash over her action, she was taken to police station for an investigation by the Lake Elsinore Police Department and the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health to see if the contaminated doughnuts were sold to other customers.
Ariana might have been in jail, but thankfully, the store decided not to press charges against the musician. Amid the public scrutiny, Ariana released a statement saying that the situation “was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”
2. Odell Beckham Jr.
It seems like Odell Beckham Jr. needs to know when and who he can joke with. The wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League got in trouble with the law after he inappropriately touched a police officer on the behind.
The athlete got an arrest warrant for simple battery after he was caught on camera slapping a Mercedes-Benz Superdome security officer on the butt following LSU’s College Football Playoff National Championship win over Clemson in January. The incident happened after the officer warned LSU players not to smoke in the LSU locker room. Fortunately, the victim involved in the incident has decided not to press charges against the former LSU standout.
3. Justin Bieber
Everyone must have remembered Justin Bieber during his wild days. The “Despacito” hitmaker had the cops visiting his house in Calabasas after the singer was caught on camera throwing eggs at his neighbour’s multi-million mansion back in 2014.
The Canadian heartthrob wasn’t officially arrested but he was charged with vandalism over the egging incident. Justin later entered a no contest plea to the misdemeanor to avoid a felony charge and was ordered to pay $80,900 in restitution in addition to taking anger management classes and being put on probation for 2 years. His friend Lil’ Za, however, was booked for the drugs-related charges.
4. Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman)
Of course, there’s nothing wrong to chase pleasure for himself. What is wrong is when you do that in an inapproriate place and it seemed like Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) missed the notes. The headliner of the kid’s show “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” was arrested back in 1991 for masturbating in an adult movie theater.
The scandal cost him his product as it was being banished in addition to his show being pulled out by CBS. Bill Cosby, however, defended Pee Wee, saying that “whatever (Reubens has) done, this is being blown all out of proportion” while Cyndi Lauper blasted the charge as a “victimless occurrence.” Pee Wee pleaded no contest to an indecent exposure charge.
5. Ozzy Osbourne
Sometimes, you are just put in the tight spot when you can’t hold the urge to pee. That was what happened to drunk Ozzy Osbourne back in 1982, prompting him to pee on the wall of The Alamo Cenotaph, a statue in honor of 189 Texans who died defending The Alamo.
However, that action only led him to get in trouble with the law with him being arrested for public intoxication and urination. Furthermore, the rock star was banned from San Antonio then pardoned ten years later after donating $10,000 towards the Alamo’s upkeep.
6. Shia Labeouf
Brushing with the law was something that Shia Labeouf rather often to experience. The actor was arrested for public drunkenness back in November 2007 when he stopped by a Walgreens in downtown Chicago to buy skin cream and cigarettes in the middle of the night. That seemed harmless if he didn’t do that repeatedly, prompting him to get arrested with trespassing charge.
Talking about the incident, which he dubbed “utter insanity,” Shia shared on an interview that he kept forgetting to actually buy what he intended to get in the first place so he changed his outfit before going each time, thinking the security guard wouldn’t recognize him. Having enough of his antics, the guard eventually called the police to get Shia to leave.
7. Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder might be able to buy anything she wants, but that didn’t stop her from stealing. The “Stranger Things” actress used to have an embarrassing experience of being arrested for shoplifting back in 2001.
She was caught on video trying to get away with $4,760 worth of clothes and accessories in a large bag in Saks Fifth Avenue, an action that resulted in her getting charged with grand theft. Adding insults to injuries, the actress was also charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs, which were found on her when the police caught up with her. She was then convicted of two counts of in shoplifting.
8. Hugh Grant
Among things that Hugh Grant wanted to erase from his life history was the prostitution charge he received years ago. In 1995, the British star was arrested in Los Angeles with a sex worker, Divine Brown, in his car for their alleged “lewd conduct” in a public place.
The “Four Weddings and a Funeral” star, who was dating Elizabeth Hurley at the time, reportedly paid the prostitute $60 to to perform oral sex on him in a nearby street. “Last night I did something completely insane,” he said in remorse. “I have hurt people I love and embarrassed people I work with. For both things I am more sorry than I can ever possibly say.”
9. Edward Furlong
Actor Edward Furlong got in trouble with the law after he was so intoxicated at a Kentucky grocery store back in 2004. The “Terminator 2” star stopped by a Meijer grocery store with a group of friends at around 11 P.M., and that was when he did something as weird as attempting to “free” lobsters out of the tank.
Not stopping there, he went on flinging them around the store, much to the store management’s dismay. Following an argument, the store management called the police who later took the actor into custody on a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication. He spent three hours in jail before the director of the film he was currently starring in bailed him out.
10. Jose Cancose
Retired MLB player Jose Cancose was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border after he was caught trying to smuggle in illegal fertility drugs in 2008. It was revealed at the time that the former athlete planned to use the drugs to boost his testosterone production.
Following the embarrassing arrest, Jose immediately released a statement in which he “justified” his actions. He explained that the drugs were meant to augment his hormone replacement therapy because he had abused steroids for decades.
11. DMX
Don’t try to be someone else you are not. DMX learned the lessons the hard way as he was arrested after trying to impersonate a federal agent as a man tried to cut him off at an airport gate in 2004.
It appeared that he wanted to scare the man by telling him that he was an FBI agent. He then grabbed the driver’s seat belt and attempted to pull him out of the car. However, that backfired when the Port Authority police found drugs in his car. He was then charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a billy club.
12. Boy George
Not everyone is into kinky stuff, but Boy George is surely not one of them. The former Culture Club front man was arrested and sentenced to 15 months in jail for keeping a male escort, Norwegian model Audun Carlsen, handcuffed to a wall and beating him with a metal chain against his will.
It was said that the attack started as Boy accused Audun of obtaining naked photos of himself though he failed to give evidence during trial. Thankfully, the victim didn’t sustain any lasting physical damage.
