Jennifer Aniston‘s recent 50th birthday trip with her best friend Courteney Cox was almost ruined by an in-flight emergency. Their private plane was forced to make an emergency landing because one of the tires blew out while they were en route from Los Angeles to Mexico. Now in an interview with Extra, Courteney opens up about the terrifying ordeal.

The Gale Weathers of “Scream” movie series remembers hearing a loud bang as soon as their plane took off. “I’m not afraid of flying at all, my dad was a pilot, but I was really scared because when we were taking off, we heard this really loud bang,” she claims. “I was like, ‘Oh, that sounds like we should probably check that tire.’ ”

“There was no tire at all, there was no wheel. Luckily, there are two wheels on each side and two in the front,” she recalls. “I have to say, we were in the air for four hours, burning off fuel and just thought of what it is going to be like when we land.”

The 54-year-old actress was apparently prepared for the worst as she sent her 14-year-old daughter Coco a text message to tell her daughter that she loves her. “I sent a little text to Coco, ‘I love you.’ I didn’t say why,” Courteney says. She also spoke to her boyfriend Johnny McDaid, “I told him everything that was going on and I FaceTimed him after.”

Fortunately, the plane made “a really smooth landing,” Courteney explains.

The flight scare happened on Friday, February 15, four days after Jennifer’s birthday on February 11. Jimmy Kimmel‘s wife, Molly Kimmel, and Jason Bateman‘s wife, Amanda Anka, were reportedly also on board the flight, but no one was harmed.

After the plane landed safely at 2 P.M. at Ontario International Airport (ONT), they had to wait for a new plane at the airport to take them to Cabo San Lucas.

Jennifer also celebrated her birthday with a star-studded party at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood on Saturday, February 9 which was attended by her ex-husband Brad Pitt.
